Foreign Registration Procedure |
- Foreigners are required to register if the validity of visa is above 180 days, including foreigners of Indian origin.
- Registration is not required if the validity of visa is below 180 days.

| Reporting |
- The foreigner should report to the respective COPI SP (FRO) in whose jurisdiction he Would stay, about his arrival.

| Registration Certificate |
- Issued to Foreigners whose stay exceeds 180 days under the registration of Foreigners Act 1939 (Rule 1992) - valid till the Foreigner depart from India.
- One copy given to foreigner
- One copy to AD/CFB/New Delhi
- One copy to DIG, CIO. Int.
- One copy retained in FRO Office

| Extension of S1 AY Visa in India |
- Granted by the State Govt. / Govt. of India, (Foreigners of Indian Origin eligible for Five years extension even on Tourist Visas).
- To be applied before 3 months, in advance of the expiry of the Visa.

| Processing |
- Genuineness of the reasons furnished by the foreigner to be verified and got satisfied by the FRO.
- Proposals to be forwarded to the State Govt. in duplicate through the District Collector (Civil Authority) and Security Branch, CID., Chennai (Record check).

| Overstayal |
- Overstay beyond the validity of Visa upto 30 days can be regularized by the FROs on genuine and deserving cases.
- Overstay beyond 30 days has to be referred to the State Govt. I Govt. of India for regularizalion.

| Fine for Overstayal |
- Indian Money equivalent to the value of 30 U.S. Dollars to be collected and remitted & another 30 US Dollars for not registering within the time limit.
- Passport to be stamped as "Overstayed"

| Exit Permits |
- State Govt.! Govt. of India are empowered to issue exit clearance to foreigners if they had overstayed beyond 30 days and desires to leave the.,.country after regularisation of their overstay period. Subsequent endorsement to be obtained from the FRO on the exit permit.
